Ordering at a Thai Restaurant - 태국식당에서 주문하기

Travel English (여행 영어) 두 번째 편은 태국 레스토랑으로 정했다.

물론 순서는 태국 음식을 좋아하는 나의 사심이 반영되었는데... 실제로 태국 현지 식당에 가서, 아래 정도의 영어는 필요 없다.

하지만, 아래 표현들이 잘 익혀두면, 분명히 해외 여행 중에 도움이 될 것이라 생각한다. 

이번에도 주문 과정에서 일어날 수 있는 대화를 2개의 예문으로 만들어 보았다.

Server: Good evening! Welcome to Bangkok Restaurant.

Guest: Good evening, thank you. It’s my first time here. Could you recommend some popular dishes?

Server: Absolutely! Our chef's special today is 'Pad Thai', available with either shrimp or chicken. It’s a classic Thai dish and very popular among our guests. We also have an excellent 'Tom Yum Goong', a spicy shrimp soup, perfect if you’re looking for something with a bit of a kick. And for vegetarians, our 'Green Curry' with tofu is a fantastic option. Would any of these interest you?

Guest: They all sound delicious! I think I’ll have the Chef’s special 'Pad Thai' with chicken, please. And for a starter, I’d like the 'Tom Yum Goong'. I love spicy food.

Server: Excellent choices! One order of Tom Yum Goong and one Pad Thai with chicken coming up. How spicy would you like your Tom Yum Goong: mild, medium, or hot?

Guest: Medium spicy for the Tom Yum Goong, please. Could I also have a glass of Thai iced tea?

Server: Of course, a glass of Thai iced tea coming right up. Thank you for your order! Your dishes will be prepared shortly. If there’s anything else you need, just let me know. Enjoy your meal!

Guest: Thank you very much! I'm really looking forward to it.

서버: 안녕하세요! 방콕 레스토랑에 오신 것을 환영합니다.

손님: 안녕하세요, 감사합니다. 여기는 처음인데, 인기 있는 메뉴 추천해 주실 수 있나요?

서버: 물론이죠! 오늘의 셰프 특선은 새우나 닭고기를 선택할 수 있는 '팟타이'입니다. 태국 전통 요리로 손님들 사이에서 매우 인기가 많아요. 또한, 매콤한 맛이 좋으시다면 '톰얌꿍', 매운 새우 수프도 추천드립니다. 채식주의자분들을 위해서는 두부를 곁들인 '그린 커리'도 훌륭한 선택입니다. 이 중에서 마음에 드는 메뉴가 있으신가요?

손님: 모두 맛있어 보여요! 셰프 특선 '팟타이'에 닭고기로 하나 주시고, 시작 메뉴로 '톰얌꿍'도 주세요. 매운 음식 좋아해요.

서버: 훌륭한 선택이십니다! '톰얌꿍' 한 그릇과 닭고기 '팟타이' 준비하겠습니다. '톰얌꿍'은 얼마나 맵게 드릴까요: 순한 맛, 중간 맛, 아니면 매운 맛?

Server: Good evening and welcome to Bangkok Delights! How may I assist you this evening?

Guest: Good evening, thank you. Could I have a look at the menu, please?

Server: Of course! Here's our menu. Take your time to browse through our selection of authentic Thai dishes.

Guest: Thank you. [Browses through the menu] Everything looks so tempting!

Server: If you have any questions or need recommendations, feel free to ask. May I interest you in one of our signature drinks while you decide? We have a refreshing Thai iced tea or a variety of fruit smoothies.

Guest: That sounds great. I'll start with a Thai iced tea, please.

Server: Excellent choice. I'll bring your Thai iced tea right away. Please let me know when you're ready to order.

Guest: [After a few minutes] I think I'm ready to order now. I'd like to try the 'Massaman Curry' with chicken, please.

Server: Wonderful choice – the Massaman Curry with chicken is a favorite among our guests. How would you like the spice level – mild, medium, or hot?

Guest: Medium spice would be perfect.

Server: Got it. One medium-spiced Massaman Curry with chicken. Will that be all for now?

Guest: Yes, that’s all for now, thank you.

Server: You're very welcome. Your order will be prepared shortly. Enjoy your Thai iced tea, and if there's anything else you need, just let me know.

Guest: Thank you, I'm looking forward to it!

손님: 감사합니다. [메뉴판을 보며] 모든 것이 너무 매력적으로 보이네요!

서버: 궁금하신 점이나 추천을 원하시면 언제든지 말씀해 주세요. 메뉴를 결정하시는 동안 저희 시그니처 음료는 어떠세요? 상쾌한 태국식 아이스티나 다양한 과일 스무디가 있습니다.
